That Ragged Old Flag

I walked through a county courthouse square
On a park bench an old man was sitting there
I said "Your old court house is kinda run down"
He said "naw it'll do for our little town"
I said "Your old flag pole is leaned a little bit,
And that's a ragged old flag you got hanging on it"
He said "Have a seat" and I sat down,
“Is this the first time you've been to our little town?”
I said I think it is
He said…
"I don't like to brag but we're kinda proud of that Ragged Old FlagYou see we got a little hole in that flag there when Washington took it across the Delaware
And it got a bad rip in New Orleans , with Packingham & Jackson tugging at the seams,
and it almost fell at the Alamo beside the Texas flag,
But she waved on though,
She got cut with a sword at Chancellorsville ,
And she got cut again at Shiloh Hill,
There was Robert E. Lee & Beauregard and Bragg,
and the South wind blew hard on that Ragged Old Flag.On Flanders Fields in World War I,
She got a big hole from a Bertha Gun,
She turned blood red in World War II,
She hung limp & low a time or two,
She was in Korea , Vietnam…
She went where she was sent by her Uncle Sam.
She waved from our ships upon the briny foam
& now they've about quit waving back here at home
in her own good land here, She's been abused,
She's been burned, dishonored, denied, an' refused,
And the government for which she stands
has been scandalized throughout the land.
And she's getting thread bare, and she's wearin' thin,
But she's in good shape, for the shape she's in.
Cause she's been though the fire before
And I believe she can take a whole lot more.So we raise her up every morning
And we take her down every night,
We don't let her touch the ground,
And we fold her up right. ...
On second thought –
I *do* like to brag,
Cause I'm mighty proud of that Ragged Old Flag ... "

My Little Angel, Reagan

I have a little puppy,

Well, maybe not so small.

She’s the cutest pup on earth.

Yes, cuter than them all.

My puppy’s name is Reagan.

And she is six months old.

She likes to give me hugs;

Although she’s much too big to hold.

She can shake hands, oh yes!

And she can sit, fetch, and heel.

But when I call “here”,

She’ll only come when I have a meal.

She has a chocolate coat.

And her eyes are so pleading.

She loves to meet new people

And gives them a big greeting.

Her home is the back yard.

And she loves to dig.

The yard is a total mess.

She lives like a little pig!

She’s got lots of nick names.

Imp, Old Goose, Pooch, Vicious Brute

She chews everything she sees.

Slippers, shoes and many a boot.

Although she’s very naughty,

And bites all too often;

She’ll always be my little angel,

My little Reegan, Reagan, Rawgan!

Pendragon - Sword of His Father

A few weeks ago, Laura was looking at some blogs and found on Young Ladies Christian Fellowship website a drawing that you had to enter your families favorite movie and win the movie Pendragon. She entered Hansie’s and my email address and we won! We weren’t totally thrilled, as we had heard that it was a gory movie. We received it in the mail yesterday and decided to have a girls night and watch it. Sarah, Laura, Hannah, Rebekah and I walked to the grocery store, (which is a long walk from our house) and bought some ice cream bars, popsicles, candy bars, and pop. When we got back home it was nine forty-five. Rebekah quickly put Lydia to bed and Sarah made the guys’ lunches. Then we set up the laptop on a TV tray in Sarah’s and Laura’s room and then all five of us piled onto Laura’s bed. When we first started the movie, we were kinda skeptical, since we have watched several of the film festival movies that weren’t the greatest. But let me tell you that once I watched Pendragon, I rated it at the top of my list of favorite movies!

A.D. 411 - Roman Legions depart the Isle of Britain; the people are left to defend themselves. Artos Pendragon lives in a coastal village with his parents and sister. As they prepare for the coming storm, Artos’ father teaches him that God has a purpose for his life. But when Saxon raiders burn the village and murder his father, Artos discovers that following God’s calling to defend his people will cost him everything. This is a very dramatic movie and it doesn’t show any blood!
